A striking logo for a brand is everything. A bad logo can really impact on the success of your business. A good logo should have an instant impact. Easy to remember, and has the power to explain your brand in a few seconds.
Choose the right font and typography
Consider what font you will be using for logo but also how it will be used across your brand such as website, merchandise and printed materials? Ask yourself, is it easy to read, easy to print and easy to remember? Consider bold vs. italic. Thin vs. fat. Romantic vs. serious.
We see colour of a brand before we see the font or message. Therefore consider things like temperature - Is your brand a cold colour, serious, direct and clinical? Or is your brand warm, emotive and strong?
Initial impact
First impressions are really important for any brand. Take some time to get some initial feedback on what people think of your brand logo. Did they like it? Do they understand what your brand does from the logo alone? Is there anything confusing or misleading? Sometimes simple is better. And if you can portray your brand without words then even better.
Timeless and Scale-able
How long will you brand live for? Will it still be relevant in 10 years time or will it become outdated? Is your brand international, and can it easily be translated into different languages? Can someone understand it without reading the test?
Consider no images
Not all logos or brands require any imagery. You can achieve a strong message with great font.
Formats and Materials
Not all logos need to be designed digitally. Consider different formats for branding such as watercolors, fabrics and paint. Incorporating free-hand drawing may be more suitable for a brand.
